We – the track and field society organizing the summer event 2020, Länsi-Uudenmaan Urheilijat – have the pleasure and privilege to invite you to compete in the Nordic Masters Athletic Championships in Lohja on the 3rd to the 5th of July. Eight years have past since we last competed for Nordic Championships in Finland, that time in Lappeenranta and the enthusiasm for Masters Athletics has been steadily growing.
For the first time the class of 30 is included and Estonian Masters have been invited to participate although they are not competing for the Nordic Championships.
Lohja city in the south-west of Finland is located between Lake Lohja and a beautiful ridge of glacial origin. The little town with a touch of wild west with three main streets grew alongside the development of a limestone mine and pulp industry in the first half of the 20th century. Some buildings dating from that period still stand. Today Lohja lives in close connection to the Helsinki metropolis and typical to modern development is the gradual growth of the administrative centre at the cost of the surrounding rural areas which cease to exist as independent entities.
Lohja is part of a bigger historical picture as an important crossroads and halfway house on the route from Bergen, Norway all the way to St.Petersburg in Russia.
A monumental reminder of those days is our medieval greystone church St. Lars in the very centre of Lohja, massive and out of proportion with those three streets.
The venue of the NMACs 2020 is the Harju Central Stadium on top of the ridge overlooking the city and with Lake Lohja glimmering in the horizon. The Stadium was renovated in 2017 for the Finnish Masters Championships held the same year and it successfully harboured 1019 competitors.
We are enthusiastic and eager in our preparations to make your competitions fair, tough and demanding while making sure that outside the tracks your life is easy and relaxing.
Application will open on April 1st, 2020.
Julius Westerberg, Chair of the Board
Alert! NMACS weekend is also the weekend for summer festival “Rantajamit” in Lohja “Aurlahti” beach. We have great finnish Pop-music and evening activities for anyone desiring, but for that same reason you’d better book your accommodation as soon as possible!
